Power Struggle Over Administrative Control: Kejriwal Seeks Mamata’s Support
In a bid to secure support in the ongoing battle with the Central government over administrative services, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal plans to meet West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Kejriwal aims to rally leaders against a contentious ordinance and defeat it in the Rajya Sabha, signaling a blow to the ruling party and its prospects in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Kejriwal expressed his determination, stating, “If we defeat the bill in Rajya Sabha, it will send out the message that the BJP will lose the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. It will be the semi-final of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.” He emphasized the need to garner support from every leader to overturn the bill.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led government in Delhi has been actively seeking the support of opposition parties to counter the Modi government’s ordinance regarding the transfer and posting of officials in the capital. The Chief Minister has reached out to leaders across the country, including Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his deputy Tejashwi Yadav, who have pledged their full support.
Following his meeting with Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata on May 23, Kejriwal plans to seek support from Uddhav Thackeray, former Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader, in Mumbai on Wednesday, and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) supremo Sharad Pawar on May 25.
