Meet Krishna

Krishna is a curious and sincere individual from the hinterlands of Bihar. He is a hardworking and goal- oriented person who is motivated to start his own entrepreneurial venture preferably as a Food Joint owner. His interest is cooking is something that is embedded when he watched his father,  a small dhaba owner cook and run the dhaba in his native village.

He is also a skilled mobile repairman and has worked in the area for two years.

He is 12th pass and through Transformation he gained the knowledge of how to use computers and conversational English and got certificates from the National Skill Development Corporation.

After completion of phase I of the Transformation Career Progression Fellowship Krishna decided to combine his newly gained knowledge of IT and internet with his passion of cooking. A what better way than a kitchen in the cloud?

What are cloud Kictens?

A cloud kitchen is a commercial kitchen  space  that provides food businesses the facilities and services needed to prepare menu items for delivery and takeout. Unlike traditional brick-and- mortar locations, cloud kitchens allow food businesses to create and deliver food products with minimal overhead. Typically, cloud kitchens are never on prime real estate and thereby pay far less rent compared to brick and mortar restaurants.

Simi Mishra, who leads Transformation at Connecting Dreams Foundation breaks down the attraction of such a concept. She said, “Early stage entrepreneurs such as Krishna will find cloud kitchens very attractive as the rent to revenue ratio of cloud kitchens is significantly better than traditional restaurants. Good units can operate at single digit rent to revenue percentages, thereby ensuring a quicker break even. Since setup costs are lower, the ROI is significantly higher.”

Foodies place their order through aggregators such as Swiggy, Zomato, Foodpanda, Faaso’s, FreshMenu, etc. vying for the top spot. In fact, the setting up of aggregators like Zomato that provide access to a large market, customer-related data, delivery support, etc., have paved the way for the growth of cloud kitchens. Moreover, with the pandemic setting in, a large number of people prefer ordering food online to dining at restaurants, and lockdowns have also given time for several people to convert their passion for food into a viable business.

Incubation of Transpreneur Krishna

Incubation of Krishna was done with the help of Garima Greh, Delhi a shelter space for he trans community supported by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment. In a move to support the aspirations Krishan culled a set of dishes that were hall mark of food from Bihar and not commonly found in Delhi. He started with they have started with making dishes and seeking feedback from his friends and  soon to others around the locality to improve further.

While Krishna’s kitchen is still without a name, and  a menu card he has made his own Facebook and Instagram pages. He hopes to reach out to his intended  audience through these social media pages.
