Sheela Bajaj from Delhi has proved that age is just a number by turning her passion for crochet into a business at age 78. Sheela Bajaj has been knitting crochet sweaters for her family for years. But during the COVID-19 lockdown, she rekindled her skill and turned it into a business.

It was her granddaughter Yukti Bajaj who put forward the idea to start a business showcasing her skills, knitting incredible pieces of art. Sheela launched her crochet business on Instagram in November 2020 under the handle name — CaughtCraftHanded. While Sheela took up the responsibility of manufacturing and marketing, her granddaughter Yukti handled the finances and logistics department.

From clothes for children, sweaters to pillow and cushion covers to bookmarks, scarves, headbands, bottles and mug warmers, and even foot and ankle warmers — she knits it all.

When she earned her first payment of Rs 350 Sheela could not have been prouder.  “It was a feeling that I had never felt before. I felt so proud and independent that I just wanted to dance,” says Sheela to The Better India. She now gets orders from across the world. Today, the demand for her products is 10 times the supply.
