They say that the sky is the limit. 21-year-old Anamika Sharma has proved this to be true by becoming the youngest Indian woman to hold a professional skydiving license. This budding engineer from Sangham City, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh has first jumped from a height of 10,000 feet when she was just 11 years old.

Today she has 42 jumps to her credit executed using six different aircraft and ten different parachutes. To get a licence as a professional sky-diver, Anamika trained in Moscow in August-September 2021 and in Dubai on November 21 and again in January 2022. She got her ‘A’ category professional United States Parachute Association (USPA) licence from the Dubai drop zone at the age of 21.

For Anamika, her father is her biggest support. Her father is a trained commando of the Indian air force. They are the only father-daughter duo who are professional skydivers in the country.

“When you are in the air it gives a feeling of being free and once you touch the ground, the happiness and exhilaration is tough to explain,” Anamika said in an interview. “After some initial resistance from my mother, I have never looked back, and with the support of my family and best friend of my father, Santosh Nagraj, today I feel so proud of being just the fifth woman professional sky-diver in the country and the youngest to achieve the feat (bagging the USPA licence).”

Anamika and her father have now started their preparations for an international competition that will be held four years down the line. Till now no Indian has participated in an international competition for skydiving.
