Indian Women’s Football Squad named for Olympic Qualifier round 1

The Senior women’s national team head coach, Thomas Dennerby, has announced a 22-member squad for the Women’s Olympic Qualifier Round 1 to be held in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic from April 4. The Indian team will face the hosts Kyrgyz Republic, as Turkmenistan withdrew from the tournament, leaving only two teams in Group G. The two teams will play each other twice on April 4 and April 7, 2023.

The Indian women’s team played a friendly match against the Uzbekistan National team in Uzbekistan as part of their preparations for the Olympic qualifier. They played two more friendly games in Jordan earlier. The Blue Tigresses are gearing up to put up a good show in the upcoming games.

The squad comprises of players like Ashalata Devi, Dalima Chhibber, and Ritu Rani, among others. The team fought hard in their recent friendly game against Uzbekistan but lost 2-3. Dangmei Grace and Indumathi Kathiresan scored the equalizers for India, but a late goal by Kamila Zaripova crushed their hopes.
