An Interesting Account from Rachana Jagdish Ram posted on Facebook:

“Just after my son graduated with his master’s, I rekindled my “kept aside” bucket list of post-graduation. So I gifted myself an enrollment for PG as my Golden Jubilee Year Gift. My husband helped me too to procure study materials and relieved me a lot from our usual shared chores too.

Vattundo ee praayathilu” (Are u insane at this age?)

Vere Pani onnum illae” ( You have no other work)

Veettu kaaryam onnum nokkaathirikkaan allae?” (Just to get away from Homefront, isn’t it?)

Ini padichittu enthinaa?” (Why do you need to study at this stage?)

Padikkaan onnum pattilla, athinu oru praayam okke undu” (You can’t study, there is an age for all that).

My brain and hypersensitive to retortion instinct lay at the tip of my tongue from time immemorial….but surprisingly I seemed to have achieved the wisdom to just give an as polite as I could responses like:

“Onnu kshemi, Ningalkku oru buddimuttum undaakkilla” ( Pardon me.. I won’t cause any trouble for you)

Pandemic stuck, exams got postponed and all of a sudden out of the blue hall tickets and timetables were issued for both years together..!

Panic mode and the Adrenaline rush were obvious on me. Phones were kept away, unresponded messages got escalated to my husband checking my wellness.

There were sighs, sarcasm and many other emotions when he said…she is preparing for her exams..she will respond later. There was a lot of sympathy and condolences which sounded as if I had absconded.

Valla kaaryavum undo“! ( Was there any need for this!) Sigh .. sigh.. from dear and near…

After my submissions, it continued… “cheetti poyaal parayane“! ( If you flunk let us know)..

There is still so much stigma around when it comes to women’s empowerment!

And yes…  My wisdom of silence for two years did talk when I secured the 2nd Rank in the University for my PG.😊

Then it was silence,

“Oh!, Ahaaa kollaalloo,” (Oh…Good)

What..!

Oh, pinnae.., Mmmm” (Oh, right….)

and the best being… online exams are easy to pass.

Then .. my wisdom knew no bounds and my irrestible retortion said…” then you must do it too”.. for which it was – “Aiyeee, I don’t need it”.

So here’s the greatest crowning glory of mine.

When my son turned the tassels to the left…

More power and positive vibes to us all…We can do it.. until we stop dreaming.”
