President Droupadi Murmu’s Maiden Visit to Belur Math
President Droupadi Murmu made her first visit to Belur Math, accompanied by Governor CV Ananda Bose and state cooperation minister Arup Roy. Swami Suviranandaji, general secretary of Ramakrishna Math and Mission, warmly welcomed the President, along with other senior monks of the Order and trustee members.
During her visit, the President offered prayers at the Sri Ramakrishna temple and spent time in the room where Swami Vivekananda stayed. She was shown around by Swami Balabhadrananda, one of the assistant general secretaries, who presented her with musical instruments that Swamiji used and were kept in the room.
The monks of the Order also presented the President with sweets and a sari that were used during special puja. This visit was significant for the President, as she experienced the spiritual and cultural richness of Belur Math, a symbol of India’s religious and philosophical heritage.
On Monday, the President visited Jorasanko Rabindra Bharati University Campus to pay tribute to Rabindranath Tagore, a pioneer in women’s education and empowerment. The President’s visits to these iconic places reflect her commitment to preserving India’s diverse cultural and intellectual legacy, inspiring women to embrace their potential, and promoting national unity and harmony.
