Nisaba Godrej: Leading the Way for Gender Diversity in Business

Nisaba Godrej, the youngest child of Adi Godrej, is making waves as the head of the Godrej Group, one of India’s largest corporations. In 2017, she succeeded her father as the group’s chairperson, with a net worth of $13.9 billion, according to Forbes. Nisaba is dedicated to promoting gender diversity in the workplace and has the highest percentage of female directors on the board of any Indian-listed firm.

Under her leadership, Godrej has become a more welcoming place for women, offering flexible work schedules, work-from-home opportunities, and a program to help women return to work at the mid-management level. Born in 1978, Nisaba spent her childhood in Mumbai with her siblings Tanya Dubash and Pirojsha Adi Godrej. She went on to earn her MBA from Harvard Business School after receiving her Bachelor of Science from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, in 2000. In 2013, she married Kalpesh Mehta, founder of Tribeca Developers, and they have two children together.

When Nisaba became chairman of Godrej in 2017, the company had a consolidated revenue of $1.6 billion (approximately Rs 9,600 crore). With her leadership, the company has continued to thrive, and Nisaba’s commitment to gender diversity and promoting women in the workplace has made her a role model for women in business.
