According to a review of campaign finance records, California Rep. Nancy Pelosi has spent nearly $700,000 on charter aircraft in recent years, primarily with Advanced Aviation, her preferred company. This is despite her vocal advocacy for aggressive climate policies to combat climate change. The review also shows that Pelosi spent $43,663.80 on private jet travel in March, making her the biggest private jet spender during the first quarter of the year. Pelosi’s campaign paid a total of $349,563 for charter aircraft during the 2022 election cycle. Despite stepping away from her leadership role in Congress to make way for the “new generation” to lead the Democratic caucus, Pelosi spent freely on private jets during her tenure.
Advanced Aviation, based in Northern Virginia, offers aircraft ranging from eight-seater turboprop jets to 18-seater ultra long-range jets with a flight attendant, according to its website. While Pelosi claims to be an advocate for slashing carbon pollution and phasing out fossil fuels, her excessive private jet use contradicts her stance on climate change.
Private jet travel is the most carbon-intensive mode of transportation, emitting 10 times more carbon than commercial planes and 50 times more carbon than trains, according to a 2021 report from Transport & Environment.
