Super Seniors and Persons with Disabilities Cast Their Votes from Home in State Elections
In the upcoming Assembly elections scheduled for May 10, the Election Commission has reported that a total of 75,690 super seniors and 18,636 persons with disabilities have opted to vote from home. The voting period ended on Saturday, with a total of 94,326 people completing their votes through this option.
The Election Commission has been vigilant, monitoring and seizing cash, liquor, and other materials since March 29. As of Saturday, the total value of the seized items reached Rs 365.22 crore. Cash seizures amounted to Rs 138.55 crore, while gold and silver items seized amounted to Rs 97.24 crore. Liquor seizures amounted to Rs 82.65 crore, with 2,746 cases booked regarding the seizures of cash, liquor, drugs, precious metals, and freebies.
The authorities confiscated cash and materials worth Rs 24.98 crore in the 24 hours preceding Saturday evening, including Rs 1.1 crore worth of liquor and Rs 16.37 crore in cash.
This year’s state elections have seen a significant number of super seniors and persons with disabilities making use of the vote-from-home option. This alternative voting method has allowed more individuals to participate in the democratic process, especially those who may face difficulty or discomfort in physically going to polling stations.
