President Droupadi Murmu’s Speech in Darkness at Mayurbhanj University Convocation
President Droupadi Murmu had to deliver her convocation speech in complete darkness due to a sudden power outage that lasted around nine minutes at Maharaja Shri Ramchandra Bhanjadeo University in Mayurbhanj, Odisha. Despite the power outage, the President continued her speech using the podium’s dim light.
The power supply was intact at the university, but the lights went off suddenly during the President’s speech. The university’s vice-chancellor, Santosh Kumar Tripathy, apologized for the incident and assured reporters that the power glitch would be investigated and action taken against those responsible.
Before addressing the graduating students, Murmu met delegations from three particularly vulnerable tribal groups at the varsity campus. This was the first visit by any president to the national park in its over four decades of being.
In her address to the students, the President emphasized that education is a continuous process and receiving a degree does not mean that the education process has been completed. She advised students to think not only of their own happiness and interest but also about the welfare of the society and country. She urged students to hold the hands of deprived ones and bring them forward, saying that a healthy society can be built through generosity and cooperation.
