UN Women, a United Nations organization promoting gender equality, has partnered with Kerala Tourism to support the Women-Friendly Tourism initiative introduced by the State government. The initiative aims to involve women as entrepreneurs and professionals in the tourism and hospitality sectors. An orientation program called the ‘Trainer of Trainers’ was held at Kumarakom Cultural Centre, organized by the Responsible Tourism Mission (RT Mission) of the State. During the two-day program, 85 women trainers were trained to further educate women involved in tourism activities across the State. The training sessions covered various aspects of tourism and shared experiences of successful entrepreneurship.

Kerala Tourism Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas highlighted the state’s commitment to women-friendly tourism, which not only encourages women to visit the State but also empowers them as industry professionals. The project is expected to create around 10,000 enterprises, generate nearly 30,000 job opportunities, and involve 1.5 lakh women in tourism and allied sectors, contributing to overall empowerment and economic growth.
