Bhumi Purohit Receives 2023 William Anderson Award
Bhumi Purohit has received the 2023 William Anderson Award from the American Political Science Association (APSA). This award is given each year for the best dissertation in areas like federalism, state politics, and intergovernmental relations.
Bhumi Purohit is a researcher at the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs. She studies how women are treated in politics and how public services are provided. Her work mainly focuses on India and looks at why women still face difficulties in politics even when they have equal chances to be elected.
In her research, she found that government officials sometimes make things harder for women politicians. They might not think women can do the job as well. She discovered that women in local leadership roles often face more challenges from government officials than men.
The APSA committee praised her research for showing how women politicians face resistance from government officials. Bhumi Purohit’s work helps us understand the issues that women in local politics deal with.
This award is a big achievement, and Bhumi Purohit will soon become an Assistant Professor at Georgetown’s McCourt School. The APSA committee thanked the people who reviewed her work.
