Director P Vasu has unveiled the trailer for his forthcoming Tamil comedy-horror film, ‘Chandramukhi 2,’ which retains the essence of the 2004 original while carving its own identity.

The standout feature of the trailer is Kangana Ranaut’s portrayal of Chandramukhi, a captivating and ethereal specter of a long-forgotten dancer. In the titular role, Kangana Ranaut skillfully embodies the character from the court of King Vettiyan Raja, showcasing her exceptional dancing abilities and delivering a beautifully seductive and haunting performance.

The film also stars Raghava Lawrence as Vettiyan Raja, providing the expected dose of high-octane action, while Vadivelu’s impeccable comic timing lights up the screen as Murugesan.

‘Chandramukhi 2’ weaves a narrative that shifts between the past and the present, reminiscent of the classic ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa.’ However, it deviates from psychological horror and instead blends supernatural horror with comedy.

While the storyline remains somewhat mysterious, Kangana Ranaut’s Chandramukhi is clearly depicted as a woman seeking bloody vengeance, akin to Monjolika from ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa.’

Interestingly, the 2005 ‘Chandramukhi’ itself was a remake of the Kannada film ‘Apthamitra’ from 2004, which, in turn, was a remake of the 1993 Malayalam film ‘Manichitrathazu,’ with ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ serving as its Bollywood adaptation.

The trailer showcases impressive set design, stunning visuals, and a captivating score by M.M Keeravani, along with remarkable CGI featuring a digital panther.

‘Chandramukhi 2’ promises an intriguing experience and showcases Kangana Ranaut in a mesmerizing avatar. The film is set to release on September 15, 2023.
