Hina Rohtaki, a dedicated Special Correspondent hailing from Chandigarh and affiliated with The Indian Express, achieved the prestigious Jethmalani Prize for Journalism – The Will of Steel Awards. The Empowerment category accolade was presented to her during a distinguished ceremony held at the NDMC Convention Centre in New Delhi on Friday.

In recognition of her outstanding work, Hina Rohtaki was bestowed with a Copper Medal and a cash prize of Rs 1,11,000. The award’s creation coincided with the centenary celebration of the eminent lawyer and parliamentarian, Ram Jethmalani.

Hina’s remarkable achievement stemmed from her compelling series of articles that shed light on the plight of Covid widows. These women had tragically lost not only their life partners but also the primary breadwinners of their families to the ravages of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Her reporting skillfully illuminated the multifaceted challenges faced by these grieving families. Not only did they grapple with the devastating impact of the virus and the irreplaceable void left in their lives, but they also confronted a relentless bureaucratic indifference that hindered their efforts to seek assistance and support.
