The Met Gala’s theme for 2024 has been revealed as “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.” The announcement was made during a press conference attended by notable figures such as Anna Wintour, Andrew Bolton, and Max Hollein. The theme is distinct from Disney’s Princess Aurora and focuses on garments stored away due to impracticality for display or wear.

Andrew Bolton, the curator, emphasized the goal of breathing new life into the costumes on display. The theme aims to explore rebirth and renewal using nature as a metaphor for the transient nature of fashion.

Bolton explained that the exhibition will utilize artificial intelligence, animation, projections, and soundscapes to bring around 250 costumes to life, addressing the loss of movement, smell, sound, and touch experienced when costumes become part of the Met’s collection.

Max Hollein expressed that “Sleeping Beauties” will enhance the interaction with fashion masterpieces, providing a deeper appreciation of their integrity, beauty, and artistic brilliance.
