Madhya Pradesh Government Appoints Veera Rana as Chief Secretary, Second Woman to Hold the Position

Veera Rana, a senior IAS officer, has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary (CS) by the Madhya Pradesh government, making her the second woman to hold this esteemed position in the state’s bureaucracy.

Veera Rana, a member of the 1988-batch IAS officers, had been serving as the acting Chief Secretary following the retirement of the incumbent Iqbal S Bains. This strategic appointment positions her as a key figure in the administrative landscape of Madhya Pradesh. Notably, IAS officer Nirmala Buch was the first woman to assume the role of Chief Secretary in Madhya Pradesh during the early 1990s.

The decision reflects the state government’s commitment to fostering gender inclusivity and providing women leaders with prominent roles in shaping governance.

In addition to her role as Chief Secretary, Veera Rana will also serve as the Chairperson of the MP Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE), underscoring the multi-faceted responsibilities that often come with top administrative positions. The MPBSE plays a crucial role in overseeing secondary education in the state.

Simultaneously, the government appointed Sanjay Bandopadhyay, a seasoned IAS officer from the 1988 batch, as the Chairman of the MP Employees Selection Board, formerly known as Vyapam. This appointment aligns with the government’s efforts to streamline and enhance the efficiency of the employee selection processes in the state.

Veera Rana’s elevation to the position of Chief Secretary marks a significant milestone for women in leadership roles within Madhya Pradesh’s bureaucratic framework, signaling a progressive approach towards diversity and representation at the highest echelons of governance.
