AAP’s Swati Maliwal Sworn In
Swati Maliwal, a member of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), officially assumed her position in the Rajya Sabha on January 31 during the commencement of the 2024 Budget Session. The AAP member from Delhi was elected unopposed on January 5, expressing her commitment to serving the country.
In her reflection on the occasion, Maliwal emphasized her identity as an activist and pledged to continue raising issues from the grassroots level. She pointed out the significance of having a vocal opposition, stating, “If all the MPs of the opposition are suspended, then who will question the government? So suspending the opposition MPs is a sad thing.”
Discussing her responsibilities as an MP, Maliwal expressed her excitement and acknowledged the substantial responsibility that comes with being a first-time Member of Parliament. She affirmed her commitment to continuing her activist role, particularly focusing on raising issues related to women’s safety and their participation in the workforce.
Maliwal highlighted the prevalence of crimes against women, raising questions about the high number of FIRs registered every hour. She emphasized the need for systematic decisions on punishments for such crimes. Her priorities include addressing issues surrounding women’s safety and advocating for their increased participation in the workforce.
Known for her activism and advocacy for women’s rights, Maliwal’s nomination to the Rajya Sabha aligns with the AAP’s focus on strengthening its stance on women’s issues.
