Sydney Sweeney is more than just a Hollywood star — she’s got serious MMA skills that make her a real-life fighter. As the Euphoria star turned 27, fans and family took to social media to celebrate her rising stardom. But there’s more to Sweeney than meets the eye — her secret passion for mixed martial arts (MMA) is as impressive as it is intimidating.

Sweeney, who will soon star as boxing legend Christy Martin in a new biopic directed by David Michod, has deep roots in combat sports. “I grappled and did kickboxing from 12-19 years old,” Sweeney revealed. “I’ve been itching to get back into the ring, train, and transform my body. Christy’s story isn’t light; it’s physically and emotionally demanding. But I love challenging myself.”

Her martial arts background isn’t just for fun. Sweeney started Taekwondo at age five to manage her hyperactivity and developed a love for MMA. She competed in her first grappling match at 18, going against male opponents in a higher weight category — and won first place. “I fell in love with MMA,” Sweeney told L’Officiel. “It’s a powerful skill that surprises people.”

Now, Sweeney is using her fighting experience for her role as Christy Martin, the first female boxer to sign with legendary promoter Don King. Martin broke barriers as the only woman to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Her personal life, however, was filled with struggles, including an abusive marriage to her manager, Jim Martin.

Off-screen, Sweeney’s softer side shows through her engagement to Chicago businessman Jonathan Davino, who’s been a supportive partner in her whirlwind career. As Sweeney gears up for her most physically demanding role yet, she’s proving she’s not only a Hollywood star but a real-life fighter ready to knock out any challenge.
