Renowned Indian playback singer Asha Bhosle was recently awarded the prestigious Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Puraskar, but her thoughts were with her sister Lata Mangeshkar, who was unable to attend the ceremony.
In a heartfelt speech, Asha Bhosle expressed her gratitude for the recognition and acknowledged the absence of her beloved sister, saying, “I wish Lata Didi was here, she would have been very happy.”
The Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Puraskar is an annual award given to individuals for their outstanding contributions in the field of music and is named after Lata Mangeshkar’s father, Deenanath Mangeshkar.
Asha Bhosle, who has a career spanning over seven decades, has lent her voice to numerous Bollywood films and has won several awards for her exceptional singing talent. She expressed her appreciation for the award and said that it holds a special place in her heart because it is named after her guru’s father.
In her speech, Asha Bhosle also praised the Mangeshkar family for their contribution to the field of music and thanked them for their support throughout her career. She acknowledged the influence of her guru, Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar, on her singing and said that she would always cherish his guidance.
