At the age of 11, Avani Lekhara’s world was forever changed by a devastating car accident. The accident left her paralyzed from the waist down, a life-altering event that brought with it immense physical and emotional challenges. But even as she adjusted to life in a wheelchair, Avani refused to let her dreams fade.

With her father’s unwavering support, Avani found a new passion—shooting. In 2015, he took her to both shooting and archery ranges, but it was the moment she first held a rifle that Avani felt an undeniable connection. From that moment, shooting became her calling, a sport that would eventually transform her life.

Avani’s journey was far from easy. She faced countless obstacles, from finding the right coaches to mastering the weight of the rifle. But her determination was unshakable. Every challenge she faced only fueled her desire to succeed. Her dedication led her to the Tokyo Paralympics, where she made history by becoming the first Indian woman to win a Paralympic gold medal.

This remarkable achievement turned Avani into a symbol of hope and inspiration for millions, both in India and around the world. She showed that no matter how difficult the journey, with perseverance and passion, anything is possible.

Now, as she sets her sights on the Paris Paralympics, Avani is ready to continue her legacy. She will be competing in three events, and her goal remains the same: to give her best and bring home another medal for her country.

Avani’s journey stands as a powerful example of resilience, and as she steps into this next chapter, she carries the weight of a nation’s hopes with her.
