BCCI invites applications for India women’s head coach position
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has opened applications for the position of head coach of the India women’s team, which has been vacant since Ramesh Powar’s transfer to the National Cricket Academy earlier this year. The coach will be responsible for developing the women’s coaching system, monitoring fitness and high-performance standards, and establishing a strong team. As per the BCCI statement, the applicant must have played international cricket or be an NCA Level C-certified coach with experience coaching an international team for one season or a T20 franchise for two seasons.
The position was temporarily held by batting coach Hrishikesh Ktkar during the T20 World Cup, where India lost to Australia in the semi-finals. Powar’s tenure as head coach saw India draw the one-off Tests in England and Australia in 2021 and halt Australia’s 26-match winning streak in ODIs. However, they were eliminated in the league stage of the 50-over World Cup in 2022. They won silver at the Commonwealth Games and blanked England 3-0 in an ODI series in England.
