The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is preparing to overhaul women’s cricket in India with the introduction of a home and away format for the Women’s T20 Challenge, also known as the Women’s IPL (WPL).
The new format is set to be implemented in the upcoming season 2 of the tournament.
The Women’s T20 Challenge was first introduced in 2018 as a one-off exhibition match, but it has since grown to become a three-team tournament played alongside the Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs. The tournament provides an opportunity for domestic and international players to showcase their skills on a global stage.
The BCCI’s decision to introduce a home-and-away format for the Women’s T20 Challenge is a significant step towards the development of women’s cricket in India. The new format will provide players with more opportunities to play high-quality cricket against top-level competition and will give fans across the country a chance to watch their favorite players in action.
The BCCI is also looking to expand the Women’s T20 Challenge from three to four teams, providing more players with the chance to participate in the tournament. Additionally, the board is considering the introduction of a full-fledged Women’s IPL in the future, which would be a major boost for women’s cricket in India.
