Bhutan King and President Murmu discuss the India-Bhutan partnership

Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk visited President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday to discuss the close partnership between India and Bhutan. President Murmu welcomed the King, stating that their countries have a strong partnership based on mutual trust, goodwill, and understanding.

As Bhutan’s largest development partner, India has been proud to support projects in sectors such as health, education, agriculture, infrastructure, digitization, and skill development. President Murmu assured the King that India’s development partnership would continue to be guided by the priorities and aspirations of Bhutan.

This year, Bhutan is set to graduate from the Least Developed Country category and become a high-income economy. The President noted that India would remain a reliable partner of Bhutan on this journey and collaborate on fin-tech, start-up, and emerging technology fronts.

The two leaders reviewed the full range of bilateral engagement and sketched a roadmap for the next steps to take forward multifaceted cooperation and partnership. The President emphasized that India and Bhutan should expand the scope of their collaboration to harness the energy and potential of youth.

The Bhutan King’s three-day state visit to India reinforces the strong relationship between the two nations and highlights their commitment to supporting each other’s growth and development.
