Caitlin Clark of Iowa secured the fourth position on the NCAA women’s basketball career scoring list by surpassing former Baylor standout Brittney Griner. In the game against Wisconsin, Clark displayed an impressive performance, contributing 32 points, including six 3-pointers, leading No. 2 Iowa to a dominant 96-50 victory. With this, Clark’s career total points reached 3,306.
Entering the game with 3,274 points, Clark needed just 10 to surpass Griner. Reflecting on her impact on the sport postgame, she expressed, “It’s just hard for me to wrap my head around. I’m just trying to stay in the moment and enjoy every single second of it.” Clark emphasized the significance of their contribution to the women’s game, the state of Iowa, and fans across the country. Throughout her Iowa career, Clark has consistently scored in double digits in nearly every game, showcasing remarkable consistency since her freshman year. Moving forward on the scoring list, she eyes the next milestone held by Jackie Stiles, who accumulated 3,393 points for Missouri State from 1997 to 2001. Subsequently, Kelsey Mitchell (3,402) and Kelsey Plum (3,527) are on the horizon.
With an impressive average of 31 points per game, Clark stands poised to surpass Plum’s record, potentially achieving this milestone in the second or third week of February.
