Gianna Clemente and Avery Zweig, two fearless high school golfers, demonstrated their exceptional skill and resilience in the final of the U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship. Despite facing a deficit and the pressure of a national championship, the duo showcased their precocious talent and secured a remarkable victory.

Clemente, the top-ranked player in the American Junior Golf Association, and Zweig, who holds her own impressive credentials, battled back from behind at the Home Course in Dupont, Wash. They achieved an impressive comeback, winning holes 14, 15, and 17, ultimately defeating college golfers Tiffany Le and Kate Villegas 3 and 1.

Reflecting on their accomplishment, Zweig expressed the significance of winning a USGA championship, highlighting the challenging nature of such tournaments. Their victory exceeded expectations, as they focused on staying present and maintaining a casual approach throughout the week.

In the semifinals, Clemente and Zweig secured a 4 and 3 victory against Leigh Chlen and Anna Huang, while Le and Villegas triumphed 2-up over Angela Zhang and Alice Ziyi Zhao.

Clemente, hailing from Estero, Fla., has already established an impressive golfing resume at a young age, with notable achievements including a runner-up finish in the 2022 U.S. Girls’ Junior tournament. Notably, at the age of 14, she successfully qualified for three consecutive LPGA tournaments last summer.

Zweig, on the other hand, has her own remarkable accomplishments, having become the youngest player in history to qualify for a U.S. women’s championship at the age of 10 in 2017.

Their journey in the final started with a slight setback as Le and Villegas took an early lead. However, Clemente and Zweig rallied, initiating a comeback that included Zweig’s impressive chip-in for birdie on the 14th hole.

The teenage duo navigated a challenging and intense week, cherishing both the tense and enjoyable moments. Clemente expressed her gratitude for the unforgettable experience, particularly as she shared it with a close friend like Zweig.

Their victory in the U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship marks a significant milestone in their promising golf careers, solidifying their place as rising stars in the sport.
