Dr. Rajanandini, daughter of Congress veteran Kagodu Thimmappa, has joined the BJP in Bengaluru, delivering another blow to the Congress party. According to reports, Dr. Rajanandini was upset with Congress leaders for ignoring her claims to the Sagara Assembly seat previously held by her father. She expressed her disappointment with Congress leader Siddaramaiah, Karnataka Congress president D K Shivakumar, and party national chief Mallikarjun Kharge, claiming that she expected the party to recognize her and provide her with a ticket.
“I expected that Congress would recognize me and give me a ticket, but I didn’t get the opportunity. BJP warmly welcomed me and I will work for the party. I am a worker, I can work anywhere,” said Dr. Rajanandini after joining BJP.
Former Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa expressed his surprise and disappointment, saying that he never expected his daughter to leave the party. He plans to speak to her and stand in favor of Congress, as he has always done.
This move comes as both the BJP and Congress face setbacks ahead of the assembly elections, with several members defecting from both parties. Anil Antony, son of former defense minister and Congress veteran AK Antony, recently joined the BJP, stating that he strongly believes he made the right decision. In addition, former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy joined the saffron party, with Union Minister Pralhad Joshi expressing his belief that Reddy’s clean image would benefit the BJP in Andhra Pradesh.
Dr. Rajanandini’s move to join the BJP highlights the struggle within the Congress party, as prominent leaders defect to other parties. Her disappointment with Congress leaders for ignoring her claims to a seat underscores the importance of recognizing and supporting women’s political ambitions.
