Munjapara Mahendrabhai, Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development, spoke at the second G20 Empower Meet held in Kovalam, Kerala. With the theme ‘Women’s Empowerment: A Win-Win for Equity and Economy,’ the two-day session aimed to promote women-led development, entrepreneurship, and STEM education.
In his inaugural speech, the Union Minister emphasized the need to create an ecosystem that nurtures women’s entrepreneurship and leadership. He called for greater access to mentoring, capacity-building, and financing to help women scale up their businesses.
Mahendrabhai applauded India’s significant strides in promoting women’s entrepreneurship, with over 230 million women availing of business loans and generating entrepreneurship opportunities at the grassroots level. He also mentioned that the country has been empowering women and girls through access to resources, financing, and digital literacy, with over 257 million Jan Dhan bank accounts opened for women.
The G20 Empower Meet’s inception meeting was held in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, in February, and Thiruvananthapuram is hosting the second leg of the session. The conference aimed to bring together women leaders from across the world to discuss the most pressing issues facing women today.
