Empowering NCC Girls: North East Shines at Republic Day Camp 2024
In a groundbreaking initiative, 45 girls aged 13–15 from North East India are taking center stage at the NCC Republic Day Camp 2024. Led by NCC Director-General Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh, this marks a significant stride towards showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the region and highlighting the NCC’s expansive influence across the nation.
Historic Female Participation: The NCC Republic Day Camp of 2024 boasts the highest-ever participation of women, with 907 out of 2,274 cadets being girls. Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh emphasized the exceptional standards of training and drill exhibited by the NCC Girls Cadets. For the first time, a dedicated women’s contingent will grace the Republic Day parade, replacing the traditional mixed contingent.
Thriving Female Cadet Engagement: The NCC has experienced a remarkable 35 percent increase in female cadet participation, reflecting a progressive shift in gender inclusivity within the organization. Cadets from all corners of the country, including 122 from Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and 177 from the North East, are converging for the month-long camp.
Global Presence: Adding a global flair, cadets and officers from 25 countries are participating through the Youth Exchange Programme (YEP). These nations, including Argentina, Brazil, Kenya, Russia, and others, contribute to the cultural diversity and global exchange of ideas during the camp.
Distinguished Guests and Events: The camp will witness the presence of distinguished dignitaries, including the Vice President, Raksha Mantri, Raksha Rajya Mantri, the Chief of Defence Staff, and the three Service Chiefs. A diverse range of events, such as Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat camps, Megacyclothon, Nari Vandhan Run, and mountaineering expeditions, will unfold during the month.
Holistic Development Focus: Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh underscores the camp’s emphasis on personality development, leadership traits, and soft skills enhancement. The overarching goal is to mold cadets into responsible citizens, instilling a sense of ‘nation first’ spirit to prepare them for future challenges.
Thus, the NCC Republic Day Camp 2024 not only sets new standards for women marching but also signifies a broader commitment to inclusivity, global collaboration, and holistic development. The North East, with its cultural richness, takes a prominent role in this transformative experience, redefining the narrative of the Republic Day celebrations
