Family members of Dhangri terror attack victims threaten to migrate if justice is not served
Family members of the victims of the Dhangri terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district on January 1 have threatened to migrate from their village to a “safer” place and return the ex gratia amount if the government fails to catch the attackers and bring them to justice. Saroj Bala, who lost two sons in the terror attack, expressed her frustration with the government for the lack of progress in finding the perpetrators, saying that if justice is not served, the government should “shoot me dead too.”
Bala’s sentiment was echoed by Dhangri sarpanch Deeraj Kumar, who stated that the ex gratia amount would be returned if justice is not provided to the families. “We don’t need compensation, weapons, and security in the village. Take everything back, but give us justice by bringing terrorists and their supporters to book,” he said.
The family members of the victims also criticized the government for transferring Rajouri SSP Mohammad Aslam and demanded that he be reinstated until the case is solved. The DGP had recently announced that terrorists had infiltrated from Pakistan and killed innocent people in Dhangri village. However, the family members questioned why those who gave them support to infiltrate, guided them and provided food and shelter had not been brought to justice. The government must take the necessary steps to ensure that the perpetrators are found and brought to justice, or risk losing the trust and faith of the victims’ families.
