The FIM Women’s World Championship will kick off in March or April 2024, featuring six rounds in Europe and a single-make competition with bikes similar to the Supersport level. Unlike the FIM Women’s European Championship, which is at Super Sport 300 level, the Women’s World Championship is the final destination for female racers, with the goal of creating a professional racing circuit for women. FIM President Jorge Viegas announced the all-female championship, which is being organized in conjunction with the World Superbike Championship, and will be held at the same level as MotoGP. The championship aims to attract women from all over the world to compete at the highest level, and Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta said that using the same bikes for everyone would help to identify the best women riders in the world. The FIM-sanctioned motorcycle racing already saw a female world champion when Ana Carrasco won the 2018 World Super Sport 300 Championship. This new decision to create a new professional series for women is aimed at improving gender diversity in existing series such as MotoGP and WSBK. Dorna WSBK chief Gregorio Lavilla believes that the Women’s World Championship will increase the percentage of female riders, enabling more women to succeed in the sport. The Women’s World Championship marks a significant step forward in promoting gender diversity and empowering women to compete at the highest level.
