Ganemat Sekhon shines with skeet silver at World Cup, continuing sharpshooter legacy.
In a remarkable display of talent and resilience, Ganemat Sekhon, a rising star in the world of women’s skeet shooting, secured a silver medal at the prestigious ISSF World Cup in Almaty. Battling challenging conditions, including strong winds, Sekhon showcased her exceptional marksmanship and secured a spot on the podium. Alongside her, Darshna Rathore claimed the bronze, making it a historic day for India.
Hailing from a family of distinguished shooters, Sekhon’s passion for the sport runs deep. Her great-grandfather, Captain Chattar Singh, was a renowned champion in the pre-independence era, while her grandfather, Mohinder Pal Singh, excelled at the national level. Sekhon’s love for shooting was nurtured from a young age, accompanying her father, Amrinder Sekhon, to the shooting range in Patiala for rigorous training sessions.
Sekhon’s journey to success has been marked by significant milestones. In 2018, she became the first Indian female skeet shooter to win a medal at the world level, securing a bronze at the Junior World Championship in Australia. Since then, she has continued to make her mark, training under the guidance of Italian coach Pietro Genga in Bari, Italy.
