Former Bengaluru Mayor, Gangambike Mallikarjun, is set to file her nomination on Thursday, hopeful of securing the Congress party ticket to contest from the Chickpet constituency. She believes the day to be auspicious and has planned a padayatra from Ashoka Pillar to South End Circle before filing her nomination.
Although the Congress has not yet announced its ticket, Gangambike is confident that her hard work during the pandemic and organizing party programs, along with a grant of Rs 350 crore for the constituency’s development, will be taken into account. She trusts the party leaders to provide her with the ‘B’ form, which she will submit before April 20.
If the party chooses another candidate, Gangambike will discuss her move with leaders in the constituency. She shared that people are encouraging her to contest this time, and she has decided to file her nomination.
As a woman politician, Gangambike’s entry into the race is a significant step towards gender equality in politics. Women continue to be underrepresented in Indian politics, with only 14% of seats in the Lok Sabha and 24% in the Rajya Sabha occupied by women. Gangambike’s decision to contest the election sends a positive message and could inspire more women to enter politics.
