Google Pay, in a significant move to enhance payment options, announced its support for RuPay credit cards on UPI payments. This groundbreaking feature empowers RuPay credit cardholders to register their cards on Google Pay, enabling them to enjoy seamless online and offline UPI transactions wherever accepted.

Initially, this facility is available to RuPay credit cardholders of prominent banks including Axis Bank, Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank, HDFC Bank, Indian Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Punjab National Bank, and Union Bank of India. Google has plans to include more banks in the ecosystem, providing even greater convenience for users.

To activate this feature, users can navigate to their profile settings and select the “RuPay credit card on UPI” option, subsequently choosing the bank that issued their RuPay credit card. Next, users will need to create a unique UPI PIN by entering the last six digits of their card number and its expiry date. Finally, they will need to enter the OTP provided by their bank. It’s worth noting that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) authorized the integration of RuPay credit cards with the UPI platform back in June 2022.

Sharath Bulusu, Director of Product Management at Google, highlighted the significance of this new feature, stating, “This development will offer Google Pay users greater flexibility and choice when it comes to making payments, ultimately fostering wider adoption of digital payment solutions across the country.”

With Google Pay’s expansion of UPI support to include RuPay credit cards, women now have increased control and accessibility when managing their financial transactions, further accelerating the journey towards a cashless society.
