TIME magazine has announced its prestigious ‘2023 TIME100 Next: the Emerging Leaders Shaping the World’ list, highlighting individuals who are making significant contributions to the global landscape. Notably, three Indians have earned a place on this prestigious list: Harmanpreet Kaur, Nandita Venkatesan, and Vinu Daniel.

Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of India’s national women’s cricket team, has been recognized for her outstanding contributions to the world of cricket. TIME magazine praises her as a dynamic force who has played a pivotal role in elevating women’s cricket from obscurity to a valuable sporting asset on the global stage. Her remarkable performance in 2017, when she scored an astonishing 171 not out off just 115 balls during a World Cup match against Australia, cemented her legendary status.

Nandita Venkatesan, a tuberculosis survivor who lost her hearing during her battle with a drug-resistant strain of the disease, has also earned a spot on the list. Alongside her is Phumeza Tisile, a South African health activist who faced a similar fate. Both women have been acknowledged for their resilience and advocacy.

Vinu Daniel, the founder of Wallmakers, an architectural studio that utilizes mud and waste materials to create functional and aesthetically pleasing structures, is another notable inclusion. His work is inspired by the principles of sustainability and Gandhi’s vision that houses should be constructed using materials found within a five-mile radius.

Additionally, Indian-origin scientist Nabarun Dasgupta has been recognized for his role in launching a program through a nonprofit organization that facilitates the distribution of the opioid-overdose-reversing drug naloxone to combat overdose deaths.

Harmanpreet Kaur and her fellow Indians on this list exemplify the diverse and impactful contributions emerging leaders are making to shape the world positively.
