Iltija Mufti, the daughter of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, has claimed that she is facing tremendous pressure to withdraw her petition filed in the High Court seeking the issuance of a passport. In response, the police have refuted her claims.

Iltija Mufti, who has been vocal against the abrogation of Article 370 and the subsequent changes in the region, applied for a passport in November 2020. However, her application was rejected without citing any reason. She then approached the High Court seeking the issuance of a passport.

In a tweet, she stated that she is under tremendous pressure to withdraw her petition, which she sees as an attempt to silence her voice. She further added that such pressure is an attack on her fundamental rights as a citizen of India.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have refuted her claims of pressure, stating that they have not received any such complaints from her. They further added that if she has any grievances, she should approach the appropriate authorities.

Iltija Mufti’s petition comes amidst the ongoing debate on the government’s policies regarding the issuance of passports to citizens from Jammu and Kashmir. Many activists have criticized the government’s approach, citing discrimination against citizens of the region.
