India-born academic Neeli Bendapudi appointed to US-India university partnership task force

Neeli Bendapudi, an academic born in India, has been appointed to a task force aimed at expanding university partnerships between the United States and India. The announcement was made by the US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs on April 16th, 2023.
Bendapudi is currently the president of the University of Louisville and has extensive experience in academia, having previously served as the provost and executive vice chancellor at the University of Kansas. She is also a member of the Board of Directors for the Association of American Universities.
The task force, officially known as the US-India University Partnerships Task Force, was established in response to a joint statement by the US and Indian governments in September 2022, which called for increased collaboration in higher education. The task force will work to identify and expand opportunities for partnership between US and Indian universities, with the goal of enhancing educational and research opportunities for students and faculty in both countries.
In a statement, Bendapudi expressed her excitement for the opportunity to contribute to the task force’s mission. She highlighted the importance of strengthening ties between the US and India and emphasized the potential for collaboration in areas such as STEM education, healthcare, and sustainability. The task force is co-chaired by Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs, Marie Royce, and the Indian Ministry of Education’s Secretary of Higher Education, Amit Khare. Other members of the task force include representatives from both US and Indian universities, as well as government officials and industry leaders.
