Sift Kaur Samra displayed her prowess as she secured a well-deserved gold medal in the women’s 50-metre rifle 3-position event at the World University Games in Chengdu, China. In an impressive show of skill, she outperformed her compatriot Ashi Chouksey by 1.3 points to claim the top spot.

During the final, Sift Kaur Samra achieved a remarkable score of 462.9, following an impressive qualification score of 1180 in the old format of 120 shots. Another Indian shooter, Manini Kaushik, also made it to the final but finished in eighth place.

The trio of Sift, Ashi, and Manini combined their talents to clinch the team gold, defeating China by a margin of two points. This success further solidified India’s position at the summit of the shooting medals table in the tournament.

However, the Indian shooters faced tougher challenges in other events of the day, such as the men’s air pistol and women’s sports pistol categories. Varun Tomar managed to reach the air pistol final but secured the seventh position eventually. Together with Arjun Singh Cheema and Anmol Jain, he secured the team bronze, finishing behind Korea and China.

In the women’s sports pistol event, Manu Bhaker missed the final by just two points, despite her earlier victory in the air pistol event. The Indian team, consisting of Abhidnya Patil and Chinki Yadav, ended up in the fourth position, trailing China, Korea, and Iran.

As the shooting events concluded, India proudly held the top spot on the medals table with an impressive haul of eight gold, three silver, and two bronze medals. China followed closely in second place with four gold, four silver, and five bronze medals.
