The Indian Golf Union held its Asian Games 2023 selection trials at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club in Kolkata on Thursday, and two young women, Pranavi Urs, and Av Prashanth, emerged victorious in the women’s selection. They will join Olympian Aditi Ashok, who was directly selected based on her ranking, in the Indian team for the continental meet.

Aditi is keen to win a medal this time, having narrowly missed a medal at the Tokyo Olympics. Pranavi Urs, 20, and Av Prashanth, 16, who won the Queen Sirikit Cup 2023 in the Philippines earlier this year, tied for first place at 10-under 206. Meanwhile, Tvesa Malik placed third with a score of nine under. Malik had made a direct entry in the last Asian Games due to her ranking, but this time, she failed to make the cut. Khalin Joshi topped the leaderboard on the men’s side, followed by SSP Chawrasia. Joshi totaled 13-under 203, while Chawrasia managed 11-under 205 for second place. While Lahiri and Sharma received direct entries based on their rankings, Joshi and Chawrasia will join them in the Indian men’s golf team. India has won six medals, all by men, across individual and team events since golf debuted at the 1982 Asian Games.

The Asian Games 2023 are set to take place in Hangzhou, China, from September 23 to October 8. 19 men and 19 women competed for the available Asian Games spots. We are excited to see the Indian women’s golf team compete and wish them the best of luck in the upcoming games.
