Indian Women’s Lawn Bowls Team Scripts History By Confirming Medal at CWG 2022
India defeated New Zealand 16-13 in the semifinals of the Women’s Fours event in Commonwealth Games 2022 at Birmingham on Monday to confirm their first ever medal in the Lawn Bowls
The Indian Lawn Bowls women’s fours team has created history by reaching the final of the Commonwealth Games 2022 event, beating New Zealand in Birmingham on Monday.
Indian women‘s lawn bowls team defeated New Zealand 16-13 in the semifinal of this event to reach their first-ever final at the Commonwealth Games 2022. The fours team of Lovely Choubey, Pinki Choudhury, Nayanmoni Saikia and Rupa Rani ensured India their first-ever medal in the sport by scripting a fabulous win. They will now face South Africa in the final which will take place on Tuesday at 4:15 PM IST.
New Zealand took the lead with a score of 5-0 throughout the first two rounds. India had to wait for the next round to open their account but even then, after the fourth round, New Zealand was ahead 6-1. However, things started to change drastically as India got their grip back with a 7-6 lead. From there, it was a neck-and-neck match, with the score reading 13-12 ahead of the final round with India trailing.
In the deciding round, Choudhury and Saika began with an excellent couple of throws, however, New Zealand was still adamant to get back at them. Finally, it was Rupa Rani’s brilliant throws that earned four points, ensuring India a place in the finals. This is the first time in history when the Indian women’s lawn bowls team will be bringing a medal to the country. After this win against NZ, the four throwers broke into an emotional celebration and raised the Indian tricolour high.
