India’s Female Boxers Shine at Women’s World Boxing Championships
The Women’s World Boxing Championships has been a platform for women boxers across the world to showcase their talent and prove their mettle in the sport. This year’s championship, held in Istanbul, Turkey, witnessed India’s Nikhat Zareen and Lovlina Borgohain clinching gold medals in their respective weight categories.
Nikhat Zareen, who competed in the 51kg weight category, defeated Italy’s Irma Testa in a nail-biting final to secure the gold medal. Nikhat, who hails from Hyderabad, is one of the rising stars of Indian boxing and has previously won a silver medal at the 2019 edition of the championship. Her victory is a testament to her hard work, determination, and grit.
Lovlina Borgohain, who competed in the 69kg weight category, also put up a spectacular performance to secure the gold medal. The 23-year-old from Assam defeated Chinese Taipei’s Chen Nien-Chin in the final, which was a rematch of their quarterfinal bout at the Tokyo Olympics, where Lovlina had settled for a bronze medal.
Both Nikhat and Lovlina’s victories have brought pride and glory to India and are a testament to the growing popularity and success of women’s boxing in the country. However, their achievements also shed light on the various challenges and obstacles that women boxers have to overcome to reach the top.
Women’s boxing has long been overshadowed by men’s boxing and female boxers often face discrimination, lack of support, and inadequate resources. The Women’s World Boxing Championships serve as a platform for these talented athletes to showcase their skills and inspire future generations of women boxers.
