Creating history at the IBSA World Games 2023, India’s women’s blind cricket team secured a stunning gold medal by overpowering Australia in the final. In a remarkable T20 match at England’s Edgbaston, the Indian team’s outstanding performance saw them triumph over Australia by nine wickets using the DLS method.

This historic victory unfolded on Saturday, August 26, marking a significant achievement for India’s women in blue. The IBSA World Games introduced cricket for the first time, and both India’s men’s and women’s blind cricket teams reached the finals, solidifying their place in history.

Australia set a target of 116 runs, managing to score only 115 runs for eight wickets in their innings. Their middle-order batter Lewis contributed 29 runs from 28 balls, and Webeck’s unbeaten 30 runs off 26 balls added to their total. India’s bowlers, including Deepika, Davis, and Tudu, took crucial wickets, with the remaining five wickets secured through run-out dismissals.

During India’s chase, rain briefly interrupted play after opener Neelappa’s departure at eight runs. However, Deepika’s resilient performance with 18* off 11 balls propelled India to 43 runs in 3.3 overs before the rain break. Utilizing the DLS method, India emerged victorious, etching their name in history with a well-earned maiden gold medal.

The triumph of India’s women’s blind cricket team not only showcases their exceptional skills but also adds another shining accomplishment to the nation’s sporting legacy.
