Introducing Shweta Sehrawat, the All-Rounder from UP Warriorz Who Captivates Our Attention
The Women’s Premier League is currently underway with its second edition, following an intense auction where the futures of 165 cricketers were determined. This event promised to revolutionize the world of women’s cricket, with top-notch batters and bowlers showcasing their skills on the field. Among them stands out a 20-year-old player from Delhi who has captured the attention and support of many.
Shweta Sehrawat, a rising star in the cricketing arena, refuses to be intimidated despite playing alongside cricket legends like Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Shafali Verma. As a right-handed batter and right-arm off-break bowler, Sehrawat joined the UP Warriorz in 2023 for a staggering Rs 40 lakhs. Her presence on the field proves that this investment is indeed worthwhile, considering her remarkable cricketing journey thus far.
Shweta Sehrawat’s passion for cricket ignited at a young age. She seized the opportunity to represent Delhi’s U-19 team at the age of 14, showcasing her talent and determination. Although she made her domestic debut for the Delhi women’s team in 2021, her impact was immediate. In her debut match against the Meghalaya team, Sehrawat displayed her prowess by scoring an impressive 118 runs.
Despite facing a scheduling conflict between attending the National Cricket Academy camp and her 12th-grade board exams, Sehrawat persevered. Rather than compromising on either commitment, she reached out to VVS Laxman, the NCA chief, seeking permission to join the camp after her exams. Her dedication paid off as she not only participated in the camp but also excelled by scoring a century in the second match.
Sehrawat’s stellar performance earned her a spot in the zonal competition for the U-19 team, where she continued to shine with two additional centuries. Her achievements set a high standard for herself and her peers. In 2022, she made her T-20 debut against Manipur, stunning everyone with a maiden fifty. Additionally, she captained both Indian women’s U-19 teams, leading them to victory in various tournaments.
Notably, Shweta Sehrawat was the top scorer in both the Women’s Under-19 quadrangular series and the Women’s Under-19 Challenger Trophy, showcasing her exceptional talent and leadership skills. As the vice-captain of the ICC U-19 Women’s T-20 World Cup 2023, she made history by becoming the first Indian to score a fifty in the tournament. Under the guidance of former cricketer Dipti Dhyani, Sehrawat’s batting style and form have earned praise from renowned cricketers like Mignon du Preez and Shafali Verma.
As Sehrawat gears up for the Women’s Premier League 2024, fans eagerly anticipate witnessing her break records and leave her mark on the field once again.
