Indian track sensation Jyothi Yarraji has secured a bronze medal in the women’s 100m hurdles at the ongoing FISU World University Games 2023 in Chengdu. Jyothi Yarraji, displaying her exceptional skills, clocked an impressive 12.78 seconds in the final, thereby setting a new national record and finishing in third place on August 4.

Despite her remarkable achievement, the 23-year-old narrowly missed the qualification mark (12.77 seconds) for the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, she remains focused on performing well at the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

The gold medal for the women’s 100m hurdles was secured by Slovakia’s Viktoria Forster, who completed the race in 12.72 seconds. The silver medal went to China’s Wu Yanni with a timing of 12.76 seconds.

India currently stands fourth in the medals table at the World University Games, with a total of 11 gold, five silver, and nine bronze medals.

Jyothi Yarraji’s consistent and impressive performance in the 100m hurdles event has garnered attention. She previously secured the gold medal at the 25th Asian Athletics Championships and later clinched gold at the 2023 National Inter-State Athletics Championships with a timing of 12.92 seconds. Her next aim is to excel in the Hangzhou Asian Games 2023.
