A day after a deepfake video featuring Rashmika Mandanna made waves online, Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif has become the latest victim of a manipulated image scandal. An altered and explicit picture of Katrina, allegedly from a scene in her upcoming film “Tiger 3,” has surfaced on the internet, raising concerns among fans and the public.

In “Tiger 3,” an upcoming film by Yash Raj Films, Katrina reprises her role as the Pakistani spy Zoya, alongside Salman Khan in the titular role. The film includes a now-infamous fight scene with Hollywood actress Michelle Lee, set in a Turkish hammam, where both actresses are shown wearing only towels. The image scandal that went viral showed Katrina kaif wearing a low-cut top with an exposed midriff, seemingly manipulated from the same towel scene where Michelle Lee also appeared in the frame.

As this manipulated image spread online, it prompted worries from fans about the proliferation of doctored images, especially given that this was the second high-profile instance in a matter of days.

Online reactions were swift, with one fan expressing, “This deepfake is a menace. First Rashmika, now Katrina, this must be stopped.” Another tweeted, “Katrina should take legal action against those sharing this image. This is highly inappropriate.” Many others indicated that they were reporting accounts responsible for sharing the image.

India’s Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, Rajeev Chandrashekhar, took notice of the video, underlining the pressing need to address the issue of deepfakes and their impact on individuals and society.
