How School Smart are our newly elected women parliamentarians to India’s 18th Loksabha

The results of the Lok Sabha election 2024 have been declared. The BJP has emerged victorious with 240 seats out of 543, while Congress has secured 99 seats. A significant highlight of this election is the success of several women candidates. Let’s take a look at the educational qualifications of these winning women candidates:

Kangana Ranaut Debutant from the BJP, Kangana Ranaut, won her first election by over 74,000 votes against Congress leader Vikramaditya Singh. The actor-turned-politician has completed her education up to class 12.

Hema Malini Mathura’s sitting MP, Hema Malini, has retained her seat. The former actress has studied up to class 12. In 2012, she was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Sir Padampat Singhania University for her contributions to Indian cinema.

Aparajita Sarangi Former bureaucrat and BJP’s prime candidate for the Bhubaneswar constituency, Aparajita Sarangi, holds a degree in English (Honours) from S.M. College, Bhagalpur University. She cleared the Civil Services Exam in 1994 and retired as a civil servant in 2018. She won the Bhubaneswar seat by defeating BJD’s Manmath Rautray by over 40,000 votes.

Priyanka Jarikholi Priyanka has made history by being the youngest tribal woman to win an unreserved seat. She won the election from the Chikkodi seat in Karnataka. She completed her Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi, Karnataka, in 2021.

Kriti Devi Debbarman BJP candidate Kriti Devi Debbarman had a significant victory in the Tripura East seat, winning by close to 5 lakh votes. She holds a diploma from the Institute of Rural Management Anand and completed her HSLC from the Meghalaya Board of Secondary Education in 1990.

Manju Sharma BJP’s Manju Sharma has won the Jaipur seat. She holds a postgraduate degree from Rajasthan University. Sharma defeated her close contender Pratap Singh Khachariyawas by a margin of 3,31,767 votes.

Bansuri Swaraj Daughter of former Union Minister Sushma Swaraj, Bansuri won the New Delhi seat. This was her debut in the Lok Sabha elections. She is a graduate of the University of Warwick and Oxford University.

DK Aruna DK Aruna has won the Mahbubnagar, Telangana Lok Sabha seat by 4500 votes. The former Minister in Andhra Pradesh has completed her education up to class 12. She studied at RBVR Women’s College, Narayanguda, Hyderabad, and completed her SSC at Madapati Hanmanthu Rao Girl High School, Narayanaguda.

Dimple Yadav Mainpuri’s Samajwadi Party candidate Dimple Yadav has won her seat. She holds a B.Com from Lucknow University.

Supriya Sule Nationalist Congress Party’s candidate Supriya Sule has won the Baramati seat, defeating Congress leader Sunetra Ajitdada Pawar. Supriya holds a degree in Science from Jai Hind College, Mumbai.

The success of these women candidates highlights their diverse educational backgrounds and their ability to bring unique perspectives to India’s parliament, fostering inclusive policies and inspiring future generations.
