Renowned Bengali singer Lopamudra Mitra recently shared a shocking incident on a web platform. She was performing at a show in Amdanga, arranged by the police, and had prepared a playlist consisting of her iconic songs. However, the audience’s response to her performance was appalling. They kept on saying ‘Go down from the stage’ while she was singing Sundari Kamala and Dhadhina Natina.
Despite the disrespect, Lopamudra continued singing and retaliated by saying, “If someone can kick me from the stage before one hour is spent, then come forward.” After that, no one dared to say anything. Her video went viral on Facebook and sparked discussions on the state of independent Bengali songs and the audience’s lack of appreciation for them.
Lopamudra, who has spent over 30 years in the Bengali music industry, lamented the current condition of independent Bengali songs. Nowadays, even senior artists have to rely on macha shows to sustain themselves, which are often met with disrespectful audiences.
This incident is not an isolated one. Many other artists like Iman Chakraborty and Nachiketa have faced similar situations where the audience has demanded non-Bengali songs or shown disrespect for their performances.
