The Maharashtra Women’s Commission has urged the state government to set up a committee to locate missing women. The commission is concerned about the rising number of missing women in the state and has called for urgent action to be taken to address the issue.

Between January 1 and March 31 this year, 3,594 women went missing and some of them were traced. It is a serious matter that women and girls were going missing from the state, Chakankar said on Monday. The commission’s chairperson, who spoke to the media, expressed her concern over the increasing number of missing women in Maharashtra. She said that many women have gone missing from various parts of the state, and their families are desperate for information about their whereabouts. The commission has received numerous complaints from families of missing women, and they are now calling on the government to set up a committee to investigate these cases.

The proposed committee would be responsible for gathering information about missing women, conducting investigations, and coordinating with law enforcement agencies to locate them. The commission has emphasized the need for urgent action to be taken to address this issue and bring relief to the families of the missing women.

According to reports, more than 2,500 women have gone missing in Maharashtra over the last year. The commission has pointed out that the pandemic has exacerbated the problem, with many women being forced to leave their homes due to financial difficulties.

The commission has also called on the government to take steps to prevent women from going missing in the first place. They have suggested that the government should provide employment opportunities for women, increase awareness about women’s rights, and improve the safety and security of women in public spaces.
