Mamata Banerjee Slams Amit Shah for “Conspiring to Topple” Her Government
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has accused Home Minister Amit Shah of “conspiring to topple” her democratically elected government before its natural term ends. Banerjee, who was elected in 2021 with a massive majority, is scheduled to complete her third term in 2026. She called for Shah’s resignation for making an “unconstitutional” threat during a rally on April 14, where he claimed that the TMC government in Bengal would not survive beyond 2025 if the BJP wins 35 seats in the next year’s Lok Sabha polls.
Banerjee went on to charge that “the Centre wants to bulldoze the federal structure” and that Shah is plotting something. She also questioned under which law Shah could dislodge an elected government and claimed that instead of protecting India, the Home Minister is conspiring to topple her government.
Banerjee further accused the BJP of hiring “goondas” from Bihar to riot in Bengal, adding that the country’s home minister should not speak like a “goon.” She also criticized the CBI’s summons to her Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal, saying that if a CM can be questioned, why can’t the home minister be
questioned too.
