Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, has adopted a unique campaign strategy during the ongoing panchayat polls in the state. In a bid to connect with voters on a personal level, Banerjee was seen serving tea to the people of Jalpaiguri’s Malbazar. This approach has garnered attention and resonated with the masses.
By portraying herself as a “tea-seller,” Banerjee symbolizes her humble beginnings and commitment to serving the people. This act showcases her willingness to empathize with the common citizens she aims to represent.
Banerjee’s campaign focuses on combating corruption and involving the people’s opinions in candidate selection. She accuses the Border Security Force (BSF) of intimidating voters at the BJP’s behest and urges close monitoring of their activities by the police.
Banerjee believes the BJP will be defeated in the upcoming elections, paving the way for a development-oriented government. The Calcutta High Court has ordered the deployment of central paramilitary forces in sensitive districts to ensure peaceful polls, a decision upheld by the Supreme Court.
Approximately 5.67 crore voters are set to participate, electing nearly 75,000 candidates across local bodies.
